Jim Kingman

Founder and CEO, Lumenetix

Mr. Kingman is founder and CEO of Lumenetix and also was the founder of the contract manufacturing company InnerStep. As CEO of InnerStep he used the company as a platform for launching various venture-backed companies over the past 15 years. He served as CEO in many of these companies including Dynamic Image Technologies, Factory Automations Services, AGA Trading and Digital Signage Networks. In driving the growth of these companies and now the LED light engine manufacturer Lumenetix, he has leveraged his extensive background in outsourcing services, advanced technologies, and new product introductions.

Previously Mr. Kingman worked in venture capital, and he also held several senior marketing positions with Emerson Electric, both in the US and in Europe. He holds Bachelor of Science degrees in Physics and Electrical Engineering from Bucknell University and an MBA from Stanford University.


Matt Weaver

Founder, CTO and Chief Architect

Mr. Weaver sets the overall LED technology and architecture direction for Lumenetix LED modules and LED light engines. He brings to his role an extensive background in mechanical engineering and is credited with a range of innovations in Lumenetix LED lighting designs. Previously he was Adjunct Professor in the Engineering Department at Cabrillo College, where he designed a high-efficiency regenerative vehicle drive system. He was also Senior Research Engineer for Theidea, where he modeled and tested high-efficiency internal combustion engines and developed a solar photovoltaic concentrator system. He held the Guiness World Record for the  World’s Fastest Human Being on a Human-Propelled Vehicle, a physical feat, but also an engineering feat that later influenced a Lumenetix product design. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California Berkeley.


Sanjoy Ghose

Vice President, Engineering

Dr. Ghose directs all engineering effort for Lumenetix LED technology. Formerly he served as Vice President of Engineering for disk drives at Seagate Technology, where he planned, designed and qualified multiple generations of new products for over 14 years. His position included design, Far East transfer and support, and customer qualification of desktop and mobile disk drives, and he was responsible for three design centers with over 350 engineering personnel. He also served as Vice President of Engineering for magnetic head company Read-Rite Corporation, where he directed customer qualification and engineering support for the company’s Thailand manufacturing plant. He was also Executive VP of Engineering at Holographic Storage Company Siros Technologies and Executive VP and CTO for HDD manufacturer Micropolis Corporation.

He holds a Master of Science degree in Mechanical Design from the University of California Berkeley and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.


Jeffrey Saake

Executive Vice President

Mr. Saake is responsible for sales, marketing and business development of Lumenetix LED light modules and LED light engines. Most recently, Mr. Saake was President and CEO of Aurora Systems (OVTI), a fables semiconductor company that developed micro imagers and drivers for embedded consumer, medical, military and cell phones applications. Prior to Aurora, he was with Panasonic where he held various executive positions including Vice President and General Manager of the Computer Technologies Group and Vice President of Corporate Strategy. While at Panasonic, Mr. Saake was involved with the market introduction of various mass market technologies, including DVD-ROM/RAM, Secure Digital (SD) and Blu Ray.

Mr. Saake holds a MA in Econometrics from Keio University, Japan where he focused on the theory of foreign exchange and a BA from the University of California, Berkeley.

Douglas Herst

Chairman of the Board

Mr. Herst is a founder of Lumenetix.   He is also CEO and Chairman of Herst Ventures Inc, a firm that emanated from the sale of Peerless Lighting Corporation to AcuityBrands (AYI on NYSE) in 1999.  He was engaged by Acuity after their acquisition to lead Peerless and was then given the responsibility of two other lighting brands, Hydrel and Gotham until he left at the end of 2006.   Mr. Herst is a forty year pioneer of indirect lighting systems for schools and offices and holds over twenty utility patents and fifty design patents in the field of illumination in the US, and ten patents in other countries.   

Mr. Herst holds a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of California at Berkeley.  He is past Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Northern California Chapter of the World Presidents’ Organization and the Golden Gate Chapter of the Illuminating Engineering Society. 

Two of Mr. Herst’s patented designs won 'Best In Category' and one was selected as 'Best In Show' at Light Fair International, an annual international exposition of lighting.  One of his patented lighting designs won the 'Governors Award' for the State of California for product innovation in the Medium Size Business Category.


Paul Utterback

Member of the Board

Mr. Utterback spent 42 years in the banking industry, managing and acquiring banks. He has served on the boards of directors of numerous foundations, hospitals and community organizations. He has developed expertise in management, administration and finance. Mr. Utterback holds degrees in economics and finance from the University of Missouri, and he is also a graduate of the Wisconsin School of Banking.


Sam Lee

Member of the Board; Managing Director, Inifinity Capital

Mr. Lee is currently a private investor in early stage, core technology and alternative energy areas. He has invested in over 50 early stage companies over the past two decades, where he has been instrumental in guiding entrepreneurs as they take their concepts and build them into market leading enterprises. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of several private technology companies. Previously, he was the founder and managing director of ITV & Infinity Capital and also served in technical development and product management roles at Advanced Micro Devices and LSI Logic.

Mr. Lee received his MBA from The Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania, a ME in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University.


Greg Ennis

Member of the Board; Managing Director, Peninsula Ventures

Mr. Ennis is a co-founder and Managing Director of Peninsula Ventures, an early stage IT venture fund. Over his 20+ year venture career, he has invested in dozens of early stage technology companies. He currently serves on the board of several private and public companies. Prior to Peninsula Ventures, he served as Managing Director for the US office of Thompson Clive & Partners, a London-based venture firm.

Mr. Ennis holds an MBA from The Anderson School at UCLA and an AB in Economics and Political Science from Stanford University. Greg is also a Director and past President of the Stanford University Department of Athletics (DAPER) Investment Fund.
